Travels, Austin to Becket Mass.

Here is a re-cap of our recent travels. Faith and I were in California visiting her parents for a few weeks. They live north of Palm Springs in Southern California. The weather was hot and dry. Some days reached 116 in Palm Springs. It was a bit cooler at the their house thanks to the elevation. We looked after the sat and took care of the 5 doggies and 2 horses. I became a really good horse poop scooper. I am not sure I want to pursue it as a career. We hiked around and went to the top of the Palm Springs tram. I highly recommend it, especially on a hot day.

We came back to Austin to get our stuff organized, visit with friends and cook at a Warren Kramer workshop. We had an awesome potluck and got to reconnect with old friends. We stayed with a really good friend while in Austin, thanks Marie Ting. You are the greatest. J

We visited my parents in Katy Texas, near Houston. My parents are allowing us to store the bulk of our stuff in their storage unit. Thanks parents.

June 26th we drove to Reinbeck, NY to visit my brother’s in-laws. We got rained on from Mississippi to New York State. It took us three days to get there. The first night we slept in the car in a Holiday Inn parking lot. We were too tired to go inside.

We are hauling awesome vegan ice cream to Becket. We will serve it at the Kushi Conference Café last week in July. http://www.kushiinstitute.org/html/summer_conference.html. To keep ice cream frozen we used dry. In our cooler dry ice lasts about 30 hours. Doing the driving math, we would have had to drive straight through to make it to Becket before the dry ice melts.

After 15 hours we took a 5 hour cat nap and started to look for dry ice in Tenn. Luckily we found some. The heavy rains prolonged our travels and we elected to get a hotel at the end of the second day. We stopped at an Econo Lodge outside of Harrisburg Penn. The next day we made a quick trip to Reinbeck, south of Albany.

We enjoyed ourselves thoroughly. We helped pick weeds in the half-acre garden. We rode bikes into town, visited with friends and family and swam at the local community spring fed lake. It was truly a vacation. We got to met and play with my brother’s baby, Annika is precious. I really like upper state New York.

Now we are in Becket Mass. at the Kushi Institute. Where is the ice cream you might ask? Well it is still in Reinbeck. We could not get dry ice locally. We will make a trip to pick up the ice cream in a few weeks. Yes, it is a lot of trouble for ice cream. Na Moo is not your ordinary vegan frozen dessert. Our very good friend Amy Ramm makes it and it is awesome. You can find it at the Whole Foods in Austin. If your Whole Foods does not carry it ask for it.
